Yusri Yusuf was born in Krueng Mane on 25 August 1958 and has lectured in Indonesian language and literature education at Syiah Kuala University's teacher-training faculty since 1986. He headed the MAA Secretariat (2009–2012) and served as Vice Rector of ISBI Aceh for non-academic (2017–2018) and academic affairs (2019–2022). After chairing the Customary Development Commission, he was elected MAA chair by acclamation in July 2025 for the remainder of the 2021–2026 term and was confirmed by the Wali Nanggroe on 28 August 2025. The MAA congress of 7–8 April 2026 re-elected him for 2026–2031, and Wali Nanggroe Malik Mahmud installed his board on 9 May 2026. The installation was delayed by debate over whether a professorship, a functional post, could be held alongside MAA office.
