Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Humam Hamid, M.A., born in 1957, is a professor at Syiah Kuala University (USK), Banda Aceh, specialising in the sociology and communication of agricultural development and rural community empowerment. Outside the university he has served as regional representative of the Leuser International Foundation, a member of the UN-established Aceh Peace Advisory Committee, a member of the Multi Donor Fund for the reconstruction of Aceh and Nias, a fisheries and aquaculture evaluator for an FAO programme in Aceh, and an active member of the Aceh Recovery Forum. He is widely known as a regular columnist for the daily Serambi Indonesia and a commentator on conflict, peace and reconstruction, and co-authored 17 Tahun Perdamaian Aceh: Refleksi dan Harapan (2022). In the 2006 Aceh gubernatorial election, the first direct vote after the Helsinki MoU, he ran for governor for the PPP with Hasbi Abdullah as running mate and came second with 16.62 per cent, behind Irwandi Yusuf and Muhammad Nazar. His recent research covers coffee sustainability schemes, forest management and customary institutions in agricultural extension in Aceh.
