Gatot Soebroto lahir di Purwokerto pada 10 Oktober 1907 dan wafat di Jakarta pada 11 Juni 1962. Lulusan sekolah militer Magelang, ia bertugas di KNIL (1923–1942) dan PETA (1943–1945), lalu bergabung dengan BKR dan memimpin divisi di Jawa Tengah, termasuk Divisi III/Diponegoro, serta Komando Tentara dan Teritorium VII/Wirabuana di Makassar (1952). Sejak 1956 hingga wafatnya ia menjabat Wakil Kepala Staf Angkatan Darat, dan sepekan setelah wafat ia ditetapkan sebagai Pahlawan Nasional. Pengusaha Aceh Teuku Markam pernah menjadi ajudannya.
Gatot Soebroto was born in Purwokerto on 10 October 1907 and died in Jakarta on 11 June 1962. A graduate of the Magelang military school, he served in the KNIL (1923–1942) and PETA (1943–1945), then joined the BKR and commanded divisions in Central Java, including the III/Diponegoro Division, and the VII/Wirabuana territorial command in Makassar (1952). From 1956 until his death he was deputy chief of staff of the Army, and a week after his death he was declared a National Hero. The Acehnese businessman Teuku Markam once served as his aide.
