Keeping the Trust for Peace is the testimony of Farid Husain, a physician who became a liaison and mediator in the circle of Vice President Jusuf Kalla, on the story and craft of growing peace in Aceh. The book reveals behind-the-scenes aspects of the Helsinki process and, more importantly, the stage after the signing: the handover of GAM weapons, preparations for the arrival of the Aceh Monitoring Mission and efforts to institutionalise peace. Its core message is that keeping peace is far harder than reaching agreement. It is a valuable archive for the study of conflict transformation because it was written by a participant, not an observer.
