Prof. Dr. Zulfadli A. Aziz, S.Pd., M.A., is a professor of linguistics in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Syiah Kuala University (USK), Banda Aceh. A graduate in English education from USK, he earned an MA in applied linguistics from the University of New South Wales (2004) and a doctorate in linguistics from the University of Adelaide. His research centres on sociolinguistics and the Acehnese language, including dialects, toponymy, phonetics, intergenerational attitudes to the heritage language and language shift in post-conflict Aceh; his books include Morphology of Devayan: A Language of Simeulue (2019, with Muhammad Wiwin and Bukhari Daud) and Acehnese Oral Traditions (2025, with Mohd. Harun and others). In 2023 he was a resource person for the Aceh Provincial Language Office in a vocabulary workshop for a diacritic Acehnese dictionary, where he argued that Acehnese belongs to the Chamic (Champa) family, in line with the standard Aceh-Chamic classification.
