Lahir di Lubok Sukon, Aceh Besar, pada 20 Agustus 1920 dan wafat pada 2023 dalam usia 103 tahun. Ia bersekolah di HIS Sigli dan MULO, lalu Kweekschool Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (1941); semasa revolusi ia menjadi perwira Polisi Tentara Divisi X dan keluar dari dinas militer sebagai letnan kolonel pada 1952. Ia anggota Delegasi 28 yang berunding dengan Daud Beureueh untuk mengakhiri DI/TII (1961), memimpin perusahaan NV Permai dan PT Panca Usaha, lalu menjabat Gubernur Aceh 1968–1978 dari Golkar dengan wakil Marzuki Nyakman, serta anggota MPR (1972, 1977).

Born in Lubok Sukon, Aceh Besar, on 20 August 1920; died in 2023 aged 103. He studied at HIS Sigli and MULO and then the Muhammadiyah teachers' college in Yogyakarta (1941); during the revolution he was an officer of the Division X military police and left the army as lieutenant colonel in 1952. He sat on the Delegation of 28 that negotiated with Daud Beureueh to end the Darul Islam revolt (1961), managed NV Permai and PT Panca Usaha, then served as Governor of Aceh 1968–1978 for Golkar with deputy Marzuki Nyakman, and as a member of the MPR (1972, 1977).
