Latar belakangBackground

Lahir di Kabupaten Pidie pada 15 Oktober 1949 dan besar di Meureudu. Ia lulus dari Fakultas Perikanan dan Ilmu Kelautan Institut Pertanian Bogor (1977), tempat ia pernah memimpin dewan mahasiswa, lalu berkarier di kementerian kelautan dan perikanan. Ia menjabat Penjabat Gubernur Aceh dari 30 Desember 2005 hingga 8 Februari 2007, masa awal pelaksanaan MoU Helsinki dan pilkada langsung pertama, kemudian memimpin Bulog sejak Maret 2007 dan menjadi Menteri Negara BUMN (2009–2011).

Born in Pidie regency on 15 October 1949 and raised in Meureudu. He graduated from the fisheries and marine science faculty of Bogor Agricultural University (1977), where he chaired the student council, and then worked in the marine affairs and fisheries ministry. He was acting Governor of Aceh from 30 December 2005 to 8 February 2007, the early phase of the Helsinki MoU and the first direct election, then headed Bulog from March 2007 and served as State Minister for State-Owned Enterprises (2009–2011).
