Kamaruzzaman Bustamam Ahmad is professor of religious anthropology at UIN Ar-Raniry, Banda Aceh. An alumnus of the special-programme madrasah (MAPK) in Aceh, he holds an S.Ag. from IAIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta (2000), a Master of Syariah from the University of Malaya (2005) and a PhD in sociology from La Trobe University (2011). He has served as dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at UIN Ar-Raniry, chaired FKPT Aceh (2020–2022), and since 2024 has been president of the Asian Muslim Action Network (AMAN) International. Within Nahdlatul Ulama he chairs Lakpesdam NU Aceh and sits on the A'wan council of NU Aceh for 2026–2031; he is also secretary of the Aceh Community Early Warning Forum (2026) and a member of the arts, culture and media division of IKA-MAPK Indonesia (2025–2030). He has written dozens of books, writes regular columns for Kompas.com and Serambi Indonesia, and runs KBA13 Insight and acehnologi.com.
