H.M. Zainuddin was a twentieth-century Acehnese author and local historian who wrote a comprehensive history of Aceh at a time when many key documents had been taken abroad during the colonial period. His main work, Tarich Atjeh dan Nusantara, volume I, was published in 1961 by Pustaka Iskandar Muda in Medan; to write it he combined written sources with oral traditions gathered from Acehnese elders and nobles, among them Teungku Nyak Banta Lamreung (Panglima Sagi of the XXVI Mukim) and Tuanku Raja Keumala. He also wrote a biography of Sultan Iskandar Muda, Singa Atjeh, and both works are widely cited in Acehnese historiography, for example on the origins of the 'sukĕ imuem peut'. His name also appears in the 1968 publication of Himpoenan Hadih Madja alongside Anzib Lamnyong. His birth and death years could not be verified from the sources consulted.
