Bachtiar Aly lahir di Banda Aceh pada 21 Desember 1949 dan wafat di Jakarta pada 26 Juli 2026. Ia belajar publisistik di Universitas Padjadjaran, lalu meraih M.A. (1980) dan doktor (1983) di Jerman, dengan disertasi di Universitas Münster. Ahli komunikasi politik ini menjadi guru besar FISIP Universitas Indonesia, Duta Besar RI untuk Mesir (2002–2005), anggota DPR/MPR dari Golkar (1998–1999) dan anggota DPR RI dari Partai NasDem untuk dapil Aceh I (2014–2019). Karyanya antara lain Retorika (1989) dan Balada Aceh (2001).
Bachtiar Aly was born in Banda Aceh on 21 December 1949 and died in Jakarta on 26 July 2026. He studied publicistics at Padjadjaran University and earned an M.A. (1980) and a doctorate (1983) in Germany, at the University of Münster. A political-communication scholar, he was a professor at the University of Indonesia's FISIP, Indonesian ambassador to Egypt (2002–2005), a Golkar member of the DPR/MPR (1998–1999) and a NasDem member of the DPR for Aceh I (2014–2019). His books include Retorika (1989) and Balada Aceh (2001).
